TOP 5 TIPS FOR DP's OR GM's

Know Your Parts Departments Daily Supply Numbers
If your manufacturer allows you a weekly stock / replenishment order then run with thirty days supply max! And that’s calendar days not some obscure formula the manufacturer tells you. If they allow a daily stock order perfect… then it's only four or five days supply max.
Know Your Manufacturers Buying and Return Programs
All too often I’ve talked to a General Manager who has no idea about his return eligibility or that his manufacturer offers further discounts on buying programs. Make sure your PM knows to utilize every return option available to keep your inventory clean and make ninety days supply your max on purchase programs depending on the frequency of the program.

Have A Third Party Physical Count Periodically
This helps to keep your parts team not only honest, but accountable as well. I know some states or provinces allow for partial inventories but I’ve always preferred a physical count to better reconcile or discover any theft / mismanagement issues.

Train Your PM or GM in PMI Now!
If you train your current Parts Manager in Perfectly Managed Inventory you will never have to worry about your parts department again. Until of course, you might need another Parts Manager. Your parts inventory will continue to turn at its optimum rate therefore maximizing profitability year after year. It’s fool-proof and it’s guaranteed.

In House Training Only
It costs an estimated forty to fifty-thousand dollars to fully train a Parts Manager like I was. I travelled the world attending training courses so other than saving hugely on travel expenses, it's generally much less expensive to train staff in-house. The other benefit of course, is the fact that all learned is immediately applied to your business instead of hoping that your PM picked up a couple things beneficial at that course in Dallas.
